Tile Stripping the DIY Way

Cleaning your bathroom or flooring is not complete if you don’t perform tile stripping. This activity removes the stained or marred sealer or wax of the tiles to make it look brand new. Cleaning tiles through scrubbing and by using muriatic acid or other powerful chemicals can be a potent way to ensure the sanitation of tiled areas, it is often not enough. You still need to perform tile stripping to remove stubborn stains that cannot be easily removed using common cleaning methods.

You can do this task by yourself. Just make sure you wear safety gloves, mask and other clothing to avoid touching toxic chemicals such as stripper. Here are some basic steps to perform this using your bare hands and some tools and pieces of cleaning equipment:

  1. Clear the area to be stripped. Make sure to transfer all the furniture and appliances to another room.
  2. Make sure that the area to be cleaned is well ventilated. Open the windows and doors to keep the air flowing. If you are using air conditioning unit, turn it off.
  3. Apply a coat of stripper to the workable area. See to it that this area can be scrubbed before the stripper dries out. Pour the stripper on the floor and spread it using a scrubbing pad.
  4. Let stripper do its job for three to four minutes before scrubbing the floor. Do not do anything in the affected area. Also, do not let the chemical to dry out.
  5. Start scrubbing and apply water. Avoid spreading the water in areas that still need stripping.
  6. Mop the floor with clean water. The aim of this procedure is to lift the chemical off the floor.
  7. Rinse the area well by spraying clean water.
